Uruguay Round II: new 2D seismic data available of offshore basins

9 June 2011—Reflect Geophysical under an exclusive contract with ANCAP has completed acquisition of geophysical data in the Uruguayan offshore with the seismic vessel R/V Reflect Aries. The new data doesn't overlap with the 2D seismic data information.

ANCAP will offer field and preprocessed seismic data, as well as gravity and magnetic data, on a sound and flexible licensing model to oil companies interested in evaluating the hydrocarbon potential and exploration opportunities offshore Uruguay. The processing and interpretation of the raw 2D seismic data will be considered by ANCAP as work units of the exploratory work program to be committed by the bidders. All another processing activities will also be included as work units of the work program.

The bid round is scheduled for 7 September 2011 in Montevideo. It will include 15 offshore blocks covering most of Uruguay's continental shelf. Production-sharing agreements will be on offer. The survey comprises 58 regional and infill lines for a total of approximately 6,300 km, in a wide area of the Uruguayan Exclusive Economic Zone from shallow waters (20 m depth) up to ultradeep water (3,500 m depth).

Combined with ANCAP's existing 2D data, these new data provide almost full coverage of the Punta del Este, Pelotas and Oriental del Plata basins.  This survey adds information to the amount of data already available by ANCAP, such as the commercialized by CGG Veritas for about 12.000 Km of 2D seismic data (acquired during 2002, 2007, and 2008).

New electrodeposition module for COMSOL multiphysics released

16 June 2011—COMSOL released the electrodeposition module, a new add-on expansion module for the company's flagship product COMSOL multiphysics. The electrodeposition module provides the ability to model and simulate the shape and composition of electrodeposits for such processes as copper and gold electroplating in the electronics industry, wear and corrosion-protective coatings of mechanical parts, decorative coatings such as chrome and nickel plating of automotive parts, as well as electroforming of thin and complex manufactured parts.

Petrel 2011 released

21 June 2011—Schlumberger released of the Petrel 2011 E&P platform, which introduces the Studio E&P knowledge environment, new productivity capabilities and technology advances such as the ability to treat 3D seismic from any coordinate system and a flexible and interactive well section window.

The data and knowledge awareness capability offered by Studio Find is an extension to the studio knowledge database for Petrel. Like Google, geoscientists and engineers can search, browse, and select data from within Petrel—in the context of their project. The favorites feature enables geoscientists and engineers to create their own personal collection of often-used processes. The studio annotate function supports attaching any information—images, URLs, or text notes—to highlight important features for current or future team members.

Petrel 2011 introduces a number of technology advances. A patented coordinate conversion method enables dynamic positioning of seismic data. Petrel is the first software to treat 3D seismic data from any coordinate system with full accuracy. The flexible and interactive well section window supports multidisciplinary workflows and interaction with dynamic simulation information. New and improved interpretation tools include automatic fault tracking, 3D seismic flattening, and additional modes for detailed interpretation. The new prestack seismic interpretation plug-in for Petrel, developed by WesternGeco, supports visualization and interpretation on gathers to interactively process and stack data, bridging interpretation and processing workflows.

For the reservoir engineer, Petrel 2011 features faster history matching, as well as easier deck and case management. The new pre- and post -environment provides access to fast and scalable simulation in the intersect next-generation reservoir simulator.

Fugro Multi client services names Ginal international marketing manager

21 June 2011—Ewa Ginal has been namedinternational marketing manager at Fugro Multi Client Services.

Operating out of the Perth, West Australia office, Ginal will be responsible for the sales and marketing of nonexclusive seismic data projects to the oil and gas market, primarily in the Asia Pacific region to include; Australia, New Zealand, Timor, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, India and the Seychelles Islands.

Ginal joined Fugro Robertson in 2005 as a client manager where she was responsible for supporting the clients of Fugro Robertson's flagship geological product, Tellus.
