New Landmark software brings mobile to workovers

19 July 2012—Landmark Software & Services released a new mobile reporting solution that responds to the on-the-road realities of field engineers who supervise workover and intervention operations. Now available in the iTunes store, OpenWells Mobile for Workovers makes workover reporting into a simple and efficient solution on the iPad. Engineers are able to bring their office with them into the field to manage well information through a complete mobile application that directly integrates with their company's EDM database.

Total joins Chevron and Schlumberger collaboration on development of the INTERSECT reservoir simulator

26 July 2012—Schlumberger, Chevron Corporation, and Total announced that Total is joining the collaboration to further develop the INTERSECT reservoir simulator.Total will contribute engineering resources and expertise to expand the INTERSECT simulator effort.

The INTERSECT simulator is an industry first, combining Chevron's reservoir simulation capabilities and reservoir management experience with the development capability of Schlumberger. Using advanced mathematical techniques, the INTERSECT simulator goes beyond the capabilities of current-generation software to simulate large and complex reservoirs using high-resolution models. This allows operators to test a large number of scenarios to increase the effectiveness of development plans and design innovative production systems to maximize field recoverable reserves.

The development of the INTERSECT simulator began in 2000 as an extensive research and development effort between Chevron and Schlumberger; it was released commercially in 2009. Total contributed thermal simulation expertise to the development effort leading to the 2011 release of the thermal option in the INTERSECT software.

Spectraseis and Calmena launch integrated microseismic fracture monitoring services in Canada

30 July 2012—Calmena Energy Services (Calmena) and Spectraseis announced an agreement to jointly provide microseismic acquisition, imaging, and advisory services in Canada.

The agreement combines Calmena's experience in downhole microseismic wireline and well services with Spectraseis' data acquisition and microseismic imaging and interpretation capabilities to deliver seamless fracture imaging and analysis solutions for all types of fracture monitoring using surface, near-surface, and deep borehole arrays.

The services to be provided jointly by the parties include:

  • Microseismic monitoring with borehole, near-surface, and surface arrays
  • Microseismic data processing, imaging and analysis
  • Well stimulation interpretation and petrophysical integration
  • Microseismic survey design and forward modeling
  • Seismic velocity modeling
  • Real-time fracture monitoring

Spectraseis and Calmena are already working together on several integrated surface and borehole frac monitoring programs for operators in Canada, including a 60-stage frac monitoring program in Northeast British Columbia.

KMS technologies array acquisition system now with EMI coils

16 July 2012—KMS Technologies–KJT Enterprises Inc. announced that their new generation array acquisition unit, KMS-820 has been tested with EMI (SLB) magnetic field sensors BF4/6/7. EMI coils have been used in geophysical industry for some applications like magnetotellurics (MT), audio-magnetotellurics (AMT), controlled-source magnetotellurics (CSMT), controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM), and induced polarization. The new system has undergone field-testing with EMI–BF4 induction coils to acquire MT data, and it produced comparable results to KMS technologies LEMI 120 sensors.

Dolphin has received a letter of intent from Shell for a major 3D seismic survey in South Africa

1 August 2012—Dolphin Geophysical received a letter of intent by Shell South Africa Upstream B.V. for up to 8000 km2 3D seismic acquisition, offshore South Africa. The survey will be acquired by M/V Polar Duchess and will commence in late 2012.

M/V Polar Duchessis a purpose built high-end 3D seismic vessel, capable of towing 14 streamers at 100-m separation.

Petris secures contract with OMV and OMV Petrom to provide complete lifecycle wellbore data management solutions

1 August 2012—Petris Technology, Inc. announced that OMV AG and OMV Solutions GmbH (OMV), with OMV PETROM S.A. (OMV Petrom), have selected Petris' borehole data management solution (BHDM) for their well log management system (WLMS) project.

BHDM provides comprehensive data management solutions for all types of borehole data, including digital well log, petrophysical, core, and geomechanical data. The solution includes strategic consulting to define and develop automated workflows for quality control, data verification, allowing integration, and data distribution with OMV's various upstream applications. The solution will be implemented in the OMV and OMV Petrom offices. Access will also be allowed from OMV remote office locations for a managed flow of data throughout the organization, while still under the complete control of the data owner.
