Society of Exploration Geophysicists Adds Geophysics to the GeoScienceWorld portal
Tulsa, Okla. (15 December 2010) — GeoScienceWorld (GSW) and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) are pleased to announce the immediate addition of the Geophysics journal to the GSW online portal. Geophysics will become the 39th online journal to be added to this premier collection of online peer-reviewed earth-science journals. The full text is freely available to all until 15 February 2011; after that date, full text will be available only to GSW subscribers. As always, Geophysics is also available to SEG members and subscribers through the SEG Digital Library (www.segdl.org).
Geophysics, published continuously since 1936, is an archival journal encompassing all aspects of research, exploration, and education in applied geophysics. Its articles, generally more than 250 per year, cover the entire spectrum of geophysical methods, including seismology, potential fields, electromagnetics, and borehole measurements Geophysics, a bimonthly, provides theoretical and mathematical tools needed to reproduce depicted work, encouraging further development and research. Full text of Geophysics articles for issues published from 2000 to the present is available in GSW; abstracts are available for most articles published in previous years.
“SEG is proud to add Geophysics to the robust GSW online earth-science portal,” said Ted Bakamjian, SEG’s Director of Publications. “The Society looks forward to the increased exposure of the journal to a wider community of geoscientists, as SEG’s technical magazine, The Leading Edge, has enjoyed since GSW’s launch in 2005.”
GeoScienceWorld is an online resource for research and communications in the geosciences, built on a core aggregation of high-impact, peer-reviewed journals that are indexed, linked, and interoperable with the GeoRef bibliographic database. The addition of Geophysics is another important step toward GSW's aim of becoming the most comprehensive, widely accessible, easy-to-use, integrated, and cost-effective online resource for journals in the geological and earth sciences.
Headquartered in Alexandria, Va., GeoScienceWorld (www.geoscienceworld.org) was incorporated in 2004 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the sole purpose of making geoscience research and information easily available to the scientific community and the public in an online digital format that facilitates education and future research.
The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (www.seg.org ), the international society of applied geophysics, is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Tulsa, Okla., that promotes the science of geophysics and the education of applied geophysicists. SEG fosters the expert and ethical practice of geophysics in the exploration and development of natural resources, in characterizing the near surface, and in mitigating Earth hazards. The Society, which has more than 33,000 members in 138 countries, fulfills its mission through its publications, conferences, forums, Web site, and educational opportunities. SEG is one of GSW’s seven founding organizations.
