Frequently Asked Questions

Where and when is the AAPG/SEG Fall Student Expo being held?

The AAPG/SEG Fall Student Expo will take place on 16-17 September 2013 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX.

What is the purpose of the AAPG/SEG Fall Student Expo?

The Student Expo is a unique event for linking geosciences students with industry recruiters! Students benefit by networking, sharing their resume, presenting their research, and having the opportunity to interview with multiple employers. Companies enjoy cost-efficient and timely recruiting from a diverse and talented student population.

Why should I register early?

Registration is US$30 for members and $40 for non-members. On-site registration is not available. By registering early, students are able to upload their resumes so that recruiters can contact them directly for an interview. Register early if you plan to present a poster, only the first 200 poster abstracts submitted will be accepted.

Do I have to be an AAPG or SEG member to attend the Expo?

No. However, registration for non-members is US$40. AAPG and SEG offer sponsored dues for students. Click on their names to get to their registration website.

I have already graduated.  Can I still participate?

Students who graduated within the last two years may still participate in the Expo.

What types of events will be held at the Annual Meeting?

Events include open poster sessions, multiple field-trip and short-course options, Ice Breaker, and a potentially full day of poster presentations and interviews.

Who will arrange/contact me for interviews?

Companies will contact students directly to set up interview appointments. Hence, it is to your advantage to register early, submit your resume and abstract so that companies can identify candidates with the required skill sets.

How many people usually attend the Expo?

Approximately 650 students participated in last year's event.

May my spouse attend the Expo, and if so, which events may he/she attend?

The Expo is only for geosciences students interested in networking and getting hired! Unfortunately, we do not offer any programs for spouses.

Do I have to receive an invitation to attend functions?

The majority of the functions are open to all attendees. There are a few that will require an invitation.

Are U.S. airports enforcing strict requirements on ticket holder ID's?

Yes. Over the coming months when booking airline travel, travelers may be asked to provide their name as it appears on the government ID they plan to use when traveling. Airlines will also ask passengers to provide their date of birth and gender.
