SEG Annual Meeting IcebreakerThe excitement was palpable as thousands stood in the lobby of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, waiting for the doors to open, wanting to catch an early glimpse of the exhibit floor of the largest exposition devoted exclusively to the geosciences. The renowned Icebreaker that kicked off the 82nd SEG Annual Meeting and International Exposition on Sunday night, 4 November, did not disappoint. This year's Exposition filled the near 600,000 square foot Mandalay Bay South Convention Center with exhibits that spanned the full 30 feet from floor to ceiling.

Icebreaker highlights include:

  • The opening of the new SEG Student Pavilion
  • A new Digital Wall displaying major conference events, information, and the SEG Twitter feed (#segannualmtg)
  • Rollout of the newest addition to the SEG Technical Program: "e-Posters"
  • A robust Career Placement Area complete with interview rooms and online  resume posting
  • An Internet Café, which provides delegates with a place to sit and connect wirelessly over the course of the Exposition
  • 320 exciting booths and exhibits that focus exclusively on the geosciences industry

The Icebreaker, which took place on the far south side of the famed Las Vegas Strip, provided delegates an opportunity to meet exhibitors in a casual setting, while also giving delegates a sneak-peek into the exhibit floor in order to help orient them in the coming days of the Exposition. Icebreaker participants enjoyed a variety of hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and delicious desserts as the sounds of a roaming conga drum quartet could be heard in the background.
