A lively crowd cheered as Peter Duncan announced the commencement of the much anticipated Presidential Jam on Tuesday evening, 6 November, celebrating SEG's 82nd Annual Meeting and International Exposition. As though a switch had been flipped in tandem with Duncan's announcement, the band immediately broke into song that brought delegates and SEG Leadership immediately to the dance floor in irresistible jubilation.

Beyond the dance floor, other members of SEG took advantage of a well-earned opportunity to sit and relax with friends and discuss "the Show." No doubt, it seemed for some to be the first opportunity in days to unwind and momentarily relieve their minds of Meeting responsibilities.

Large round tables laden with neat, white tablecloths bore wine glasses which were tap, tap, tapped to the beat of the rousing music provided by a handful of SEG veterans. For hours, Executive Committee members mingled with other elected members of SEG, who mingled with SEG senior staff, who mingled with lecturers and instructors, who mingled with delegates ranging from students to life members. The communing of kindred spirits served as a reward for participants' service to the industry and the organization.

As the band concluded, the lights came up, revealing the smiling faces of a group of professionals who, since this event last occurred in San Antonio, have spent their time laboring in the fields or managing corporations or educating the future of the geoscience industry. It was a well-deserved celebration, worthy of the city that hosted it, and now, it is with great anticipation that those who partook look forward to returning to the same group of friends and colleagues again next year to celebrate in Houston.
