W-14: Sub-basalt Imaging with a Focus on Deep Water SEG 2012 Annual Meeting Technical Program Date: Friday, 9 November 2012 Time: 8:30 am – 12:00 pm Location: Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Room: Breakers J Organizers: Michel Verliac, Bo Zhao, Adriana Citlali Ramirez, Kurt Strack Through the support of the SEG Research Committee Description Increased energy demand worldwide pushes geologists and geophysicists to explore the frontier basins. Better sub-basalt imaging will enable geoscientists understand better the underlying geology in marine basalt provinces. The purpose of this workshop is to review the technologies developed in recent years, evaluate different methods, and suggest effective strategies in better sub-basalt imaging. This workshop will discuss the challenges and the technologies attempted to address these challenges from the following aspects: - Challenges (frequency loss, strong multiple, complication of basalt geology)
- Efforts in acquisition (deep-tow, Over/Under marine streamer) and processing (high-cut, low frequency enhancement, SRME and Radon combination)
- Integration with the other geophysical methods
