Following the successful Reserves Workshop that was held at the 2010, 2011 and 2012 SEG Annual meeting, a yearly event proved to be useful for sharing best practices on the use of geophysical technology and workflows as part of the Petroleum Resources and Classification Process.

The objective of this 2013 workshop is to go further in the sharing of best practices for conventional and unconventional resources. The session will be organized along three main steps:

  • In a first part, an introduction to PRMS (Petroleum Resources Management System) and a review of the seismic application as provided in the Application Guidelines, published in November 2011, will be performed. The PRMS-AG is sponsored by the SPE, AAPG, WPC, SPEE and SEG and is available for downloading on the SPE website. A chapter, specifically addressing seismic applications (chapter 3), has received significant input and review from SEG-OGRC members and will hopefully be of value to geophysical practitioners, as well as to all petroleum engineers. Furthermore, references are made to the use of Seismic Technology for unconventional resources estimates (Chapter 8). Additionally, the September 2012 special issue on reserves of The Leading Edge (TLE) provides general articles and case studies to illustrate. the use of seismic for conventional reserves/resources evaluation, from green to brown fields, will be discussed in a second part.
  • Following an initial talk on the subject, time will be dedicated to an exchange on our respective experiences, thoughts, questions and comments on using seismic technology (including geosciences integration view point). The seismic impact on Unconventional reserves/resources evaluation will be our focus for the third part.
  • Similarly to conventional, the subject will be introduced through an initial talk followed by a fruitful discussion among us to share experiences, questions and comments on this very active subject, as can be seen through the various workshops held this year which are addressing unconventional resources!

The aim of this 2013 workshop is to maximize exchanges on our respective experiences, thoughts, questions and comments, especially for unconventional reserves/resources.

Please bring your own examples for active discussion!
