The geophysics community is facing some very big challenges that could have a significant impact in the oil and gas business. Some of these challenges like arctic and unconventionals are newer, and some like acquisition and imaging are older but still remain a challenge. An important challenge also means an important research opportunity; therefore this workshop will be a good forum to interface geophysicists who are facing these challenges in their work and the researchers, in the industry and in academia, who are looking for important challenges to work on. We are looking to cover topics in a broad area including:
Arctic – permafrost characterization, and role and impact of geophysics.
Unconventionals – characterizing the “reservoir” and optimizing development.
Acquisition – illumination; what is the next game changer beyond wide azimuth?
Imaging – RTM still requires a good velocity model; what is next?
Beyond imaging – inversion; getting formation, reservoir, and fluid properties.
