W-6: DAS (Distributed Acoustic Sensing)
Thursday, 26 September 1:30 - 5:00 pm
Organizer: Arthur Cheng, Yongyi Li, Jitendra Gulati E-mail Contact: Arthur.Cheng@halliburton.com Through the support of the SEG Research Committee
Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) is an emerging method of measurement that has attracted attention from a growing number of members within the seismic community. The technology is a potential game changer for the borehole seismic measurement as it provides the ability for rapid, non-intrusive, simultaneous and on-demand downhole measurements. In this workshop we will attempt to answer the questions that geophysicists are asking about the technology. Some of those are:
What is DAS? or how does it work?
What is it that we are measuring?
What are the current limitations of this technology and how are they being addressed?
What is the state of the art and where do we go from here?
We will have service providers discuss their hardware and implementations, and end users discussing their experiences. Discussions and questions from the audience will be especially encouraged and emphasized.
