About the SEG Annual Meeting

SEG Denver 2014

For over 80 years the SEG Annual Meeting has served as a
focal point for the oil and gas industry

As the name would suggest, the SEG International Exposition 84th and Annual Meeting combines two world-class events in one.

The SEG International Exposition brings together more than 350 leading companies, government agencies, research and educational institutions involved in global oil, gas and mineral exploration, and new areas of civil engineering, environmental and archaeology. These organizations take advantage of the vast exhibition spaces offered by SEG to create the most impressive display of the latest technology and services.

The SEG Annual Meeting takes place in the same facility, and features a robust Technical Program consisting of oral presentations, poster sessions, eposters and workshops that address the most cutting-edge issues, innovations, and developments in the geosciences field. By way of example, the Technical Program of last year's SEG Annual Meeting in Houston, TX, drew from over 1,500 expanded abstracts from industry leaders.

And yet the sheer scope of the SEG International Exposition and Annual Meeting has led to the creation of a week-long event unlike any other, featuring opportunities and events beyond the exhibition floor or the technical sessions that serve to advance geoscience on a professional and personal level for the thousands of attendees who participate each year.

Member Opportunities

With over 35,000 members in 138 countries, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the science of geophysics and the education of geophysicists. SEG's members take the Annual Meeting as an opportunity to celebrate the year's successes and reflect on new future directions for the organization and the field as a whole. Committee Members can expect to sit at table with their committees to have productive discussions and make pressing decisions, while members and officers can participate in receptions for their areas and awards ceremonies to provide recognition to voted recipients of SEG's most coveted distinctions. For SEG members, as for the geophysics profession in general, SEG Denver 2014 will be the event of the year.

Networking

With thousands of attendees from over 85 countries, there is no doubt that the SEG Denver 2014 will present a critical career and business opportunity for anyone even remotely involved in the oil and gas industry. In addition to walking the exhibition floor, attending technical sessions and receptions, and actually interviewing with prospective employers in the Career Placement Area, SEG Denver 2014 will help you make important business connections with events like our regional and topical luncheons, conveniently scheduled to take place between afternoon technical sessions of the annual meeting. Participation in these luncheon meetings may be purchased at the time of registration.

Education

disc Before the rich Technical Program of the SEG Annual Meeting even begins, geoscience professionals may participate in the highly popular Distinguished Instructor Short Course held the Friday before the meeting, or the extensive weekend series of Continuing Education courses featuring some of the most distinguished instructors in geophysics from across the world.

After the technical sessions close, the advancement of geoscience continues with Post-Convention Workshops that provide an opportunity for attendees to dig deeper into the salient issues of the time. For an idea of what sort of topics are addressed in these sessions, review last year's agenda.

Participation in all of the above additional Educational Opportunities can be purchased at the time of registration.

Students

Students in particular can benefit from attending the SEG Annual Meeting, whether they are seeking to build their career prospects, enhance their education, or simply have fun with like-minded science students from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. The dedicated space in the exhibition floor provides an opportunity to meet and greet professionals in the field. The Student Career Panel offers directly applicable guidance in finding jobs in geophysics, while the Student Networking Event offers a relaxed and entertaining atmosphere in which to make valuable contacts in the field.

Students wishing to increase the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in geophysics can apply to participate in the Student Leadership Symposium or Student Education Program, both offering training and opportunities not typically found in a university classroom. And, of course, students won't want to miss the fast-paced game-show style excitement of the Challenge Bowl Finals, which puts geophysics students to the test to determine the leading world team in the geosciences field.

The best part? There are plenty of opportunities for Students to get financial help to enable them to attend the Annual Meeting. More information about Travel Grants can be found here.
