Anadarko/SEG Scholarship

Since I am now a senior in college (I still can't believe it), I am already thinking about my life after Smith. To begin with, I will be attending field camp this summer as a part of Indiana University's Judson Mead Geologic Field Station in order to put all my geology classroom knowledge into real world practice. After field camp, I will be returning to Smith early in order to begin field work for my Honors Thesis project in Structural Geology. As I have mentioned in my SEG application, I ultimately plan to pursue a Masters Degree in the Geosciences after graduating from Smith.

With regard to the SEG scholarship program, I feel honored to be a four year recipient in a program that so generously aids students interested in geophysics exploration. My association with the program, apart from the very generous financial aid, has truly contributed to furthering my education as I carefully read The Leading Edge and learn about current research that is being conducted in my chosen field.

SeidmanI think you may find it interesting that my sister – a geologist working for an oil and gas company in Texas - will be married in another month, and I will be fortunate enough to be in the company of 25 geologists for a whole weekend! Although not quite there yet myself, I will be included in the "geologists" photo that is scheduled – a photo that will include two geologists from Anadarko!

Other Activities:

Department of Geosciences Award: Awarded the Marshall Schalk Prize to be used for Field Camp expenses this summer.

SAAC President: Between the time I submitted my SEG application and now, I was elected president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. SAAC is an organization comprised of representatives from all varsity teams dedicated to organizing community service events, improving relationships between athletes and faculty (as well as the rest of the student population), and supporting fellow athletes on campus.

Swimming and Diving Team Captain: I was elected captain of the swimming and diving team at our recent team banquet.

Junior Athlete of the Year: Elected Junior Athlete of the Year at Smith's Athletics Department Annual Awards Banquet.

NEWMAC All Conference Team: Elected to the 2009-2010 NEWMAC (New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference) Swimming and Diving Academic All-Conference Team.
