Humanitarian Application of Geophysics | | | BREAKING NEWS: The Society of Exploration Geophysicists and theSEG Foundation invite you to stay informed with "GWB News" A new and exciting online quarterly newsletter that links the global geoscience community to the happenings in the Geoscientists Without Borders® Program around the world. Geoscientists Without Borders® (GWB) delivers results through eleven different field projects in eleven different countries. Read how GWB makes a real impact on the quality of life for many people. "GWB News" devotes each issue to a single project. Each issue will give you the chance to understand more about a project. Individuals interested in receiving "GWB News" can subscribe anytime! If your friends would enjoy more detailed news about GWB and the active projects in the field, forward it to them. For more details, contact us at withoutborders@seg.org. Your gift puts geoscientists to work around the world, where they apply their specialized knowledge and technical skills to the mitigation of natural hazards in some of the world's neediest communities. The mission of Geoscientists Without Borders® supports humanitarian applications of geoscience around the world. Program Goals and Objectives - Provide funding to projects that will benefit communities in need, where applying geophysical science an information is critical to improving poor conditions or where dangerous conditions and hazards can be mitigated or removed using applied geoscience technology.
- Strengthen the global geophysical community through beneficial multidisciplinary partnerships and cooperation with other organizations active in engineering and geoscience.
- Strengthen and encourage SEG Student Chapters by energizing students and introducing them to the broad range of geosciences careers while also strengthening university programs in geophysics and the geosciences.
Program Intent Proposals should address issues, problems, or opportunities related to the SEG Foundation's mission: to encourage and support scientific, educational, and charitable activities of benefit to the general public, to geophysicists, and to the geophysical community.
Program Funding The program is funded by the SEG Foundation through donations to the program from individuals, corporations, organizations, and grants from other sources. NEW - Software Grant - Schlumberger Petrel available Schlumberger Petrel: Anyone interested in applying for a Schlumberger software grant should contact Najib Abusalbi (abusalbi@slb.com). The Schlumberger Worldwide University Software Program offers commercial software developed by Schlumberger Information Solutions to select colleges and universities at no cost. Typically, the program provides three-year, renewable licenses, software maintenance, and technical support. Universities can use the software to instruct students as part of a course curriculum or conduct academic research. The software is not intended for commercial use by the university. Should the university wish to acquire the software licenses solely for use by the Geoscientists Without Borders® project team, then the software will be issued for one year non-renewable covering the anticipated period of the project; if the project requires other Schlumberger software packages, we will assess the needs with the university and issue the appropriate modules under same agreement. | | Click the yellow icons to view active projects | Geoscientists Without Borders® is not affiliated with Doctors Without Borders, which is a registered trademark of Bureau International de Médecins Sans Frontiéres. | |
