Scholarship Descriptions/Restrictions: Through the generosity of our donors, there are more than 50 different scholarships. Half are unrestricted scholarships; the rest have specific donor intentions that include consideration for major/minor, university, career intention, involvement in student activities, year of study, or particular research field. This is a preliminary abbreviated list and may not represent all scholarships available.

Note: Students may not apply directly for one of these scholarships. The committee will match students to the available scholarships.

  2. Recipients must be a Junior, Senior, or Graduate student.

GSH/Hugh Hardy Scholarship
  1. Recipient(s) must be a United States citizen, and
  2. Recipient(s) must have a declared major in Geophysics or a related Earth Science field, and
  3. Recipient(s) must be enrolled at a college or university in the Houston area, or
  4. If no applicants qualify for the third restriction, the SEGF Scholarship Committee may select a qualified student enrolled at a college or university in Texas, and if none is available in Texas than any qualified student attending a college or university in the United States of America.

GSH/Carlton-Farren Scholarship
  1. Recipient(s) must be a United States citizen, and
  2. Recipient(s) must have a declared major in Geophysics or a related Earth Science field, and
  3. Recipient(s) must be enrolled at a college or university in the Houston area, or
  4. If no applicants qualify for the third restriction, the SEGF Scholarship Committee may select a qualified student enrolled at a college or university in Texas, and if none is available in Texas than any qualified student attending a college or university in the United States of America.

Preference in following order:

  1. Undergraduate applicants in Geophysics from Oklahoma.
  2. Undergraduate applicants in Geophysics attending a 4-year school in Oklahoma.
  3. Graduate students in Geophysics from Oklahoma.
  4. Graduate students in Geophysics attending a 4-year school in Oklahoma.
  5. If no applicants meet above criteria, then above order of priority will apply for students in Physical Science or Mathematics.

  2. Open on a worldwide basis to a student with a Science or Engineering degree demonstrating excellence in the combined areas of both energy and environmental geoscience
    • Combined area of both include but are not limited to: a) combined majors in both areas of energy and environmental geoscience b) major in some area of petroleum geosciece-engineering and a minor in environmental science-engineering or vice-versa c) demonstrated excellence thru coursework, project work, in both petroleum geophsycis and environmental geophysics d) studies in one of the areas and an internships or summer job at petroleum geophysics and/or environmental geophysics companies/organizations
  3. Preference to an undergraduate (freshman - senior)
  4. Preference to a student who has published an abstract, article, or paper as a primary co-author in any of SEG's publications
