Welcome to the Technical Standard Committee Community!
The SEG Technical Standards Committee serves as a forum for discussion of geophysical developments for which standards need to be defined. When problems of significant magnitude to warrant action by SEG are identified, appropriate subcommittees are appointed to develop standards or updates to existing standards and make recommendations to the Executive Committee concerning their adoption. In performing its functions, the Technical Standards Committee collaborates with other standards bodies to develop standards efficiently across organizations and to promote data exchange and application compatibility.
New workgroup on seismic field storage medium recommendations
Technical Standards Committee invites participation in workgroup on seismic field storage medium recommendations
Since the removal of tape device recommendation from the SEG-D standard for copyright reasons, the industry has been requesting some guidance on what storage media are suited for seismic survey field usage. The TSC is therefore forming a workgroup with this focus.
The workgroup will evaluate traditional storage such as various tape storage devices, but will also look into the usage of other storage options such as disk, flash drives and memory sticks. The result of the work will be a document describing the recommended usage of the various storage options with respect to their suitability as primary data storage, long term storage or transient/short term storage. The recommendations from the workgroup will be published on the TSC pages at www.seg.org.
People and organizations wishing to participate in this effort, either by providing input to the workgroup or by active workgroup participation, are kindly requested to contact the TSC chair Rune Hagelund (rune.hagelund@roxar.com), or the leader of the workgroup Nils Aatland (n.s.aatland@fugro.no). Regular status updates on the workgroup's work will be available at www.seg.org.
Please contact us if you would like more information on becoming an official committee member.
