Welcome to the Technical Standard Committee Community!

The SEG Technical Standards Committee serves as a forum for discussion of geophysical developments for which standards need to be defined. When problems of significant magnitude to warrant action by SEG are identified, appropriate subcommittees are appointed to develop standards or updates to existing standards and make recommendations to the Executive Committee concerning their adoption. In performing its functions, the Technical Standards Committee collaborates with other standards bodies to develop standards efficiently across organizations and to promote data exchange and application compatibility.

Retiring the Troika ftp site and SEG mail lists

Replacing the Troika ftp site and mail lists

The Troika ftp site and SEG mail lists will be discontinued as the distribution mechanism for the SEG Technical Standards Committee, and will as of now (May 2011) be replaced by the new online collaboration community at www.seg.org.

A big thanks to Troika for hosting this information for so many years!

Where can I find the new site?

The SEG TSC online collaboration community can be found at
http://www.seg.org/web/technical-standards-committee/committee-home

You can also locate the site by going to "Community" on www.seg.org main page, and selecting "Technical Standards Committee".

The published technical standards are still available on the technical standards page, which can be located in the menu "Resources > Publications > Technical Standards" found on the main www.seg.org site.

Online community site contents

The community consists of a home page (for announcements etc.), a document store, several forums for discussion of various topics and a wiki page containing information on various issues.

  • The Troika ftp site will basically be replaced by the "Documents" part in the online community site. The existing contents has been copied to the new site.
  • The mail lists will be replaced by subscription to the relevant forums in the online community site. Note: Each user will have to do this manually!

The various parts of the site has different access protection, and the site will provide context sensitive action menus etc. for the functionality available on each page for the individual user.

The community site is still in its infancy, and not much information is yet available. The access rights have been set fairly strict for the time being, to ensure only official information will be published there. This means basically only a very limited set of people will be able to e.g. upload documents. If you require to upload files, or want to change the information in some way, please contact me or Stewart Levin.

Most parts of the site have read access for everyone, which means you can download most documents, and read information and threads in the forums without logging in to seg.org. However to be able to participate in discussions, or to subscribe to forum categories and threads, you need to log in, which means you need an user account on www.seg.org. SEG members can log in with their user credentials, however anyone can register and get access.

What do I have to do?

  • If you want to continue to receive information from the SEG TSC regarding the development and publication of standards you need to have a user account at www.seg.org, and subscribe to the relevant forums.
    • Go to "Sign In' on the www.seg.org front page, and log in or register a new user
      • SEG member log in using their member credentials
      • Others can create an account by filling in the registration form. Please make sure you use your real name, company name etc. in the registration as it is important for information tracking to know who posted what.
    • Go to the forum page, and subscribe to the parts you want.
      • It is recommended to subscribe to categories instead of individual threads
      • It is also recommended to subscribe to the "Committee Announcements" category as that is where we will post important announcements as they occur.
    • You may choose to be notified by email or RSS feed. It is up to you
  • If you want to participate in discussions, you can do this by entering the relevant forum.
    • You will be able to create new messages, reply to old messages, and upload files
    • Note: As a general user you are not allowed to create new categories and other administrative tasks. This can only be done by privileged users. Put in a request to the request forums if you feel this is required.

The distribution of information through the Troika site will stop as of now (May 2011). Please ensure you perform the tasks listed above if you would still like to participate in or get information from the work of the SEG Technical Standards Committee.

If you have any questions regarding the new site, or have problems accessing or using it, please send me (Rune Hagelund) a mail. You may also use the support forum on the TSC collaboration site.

Kind regards
-Rune
